It's official, Blackpool is the best staycation spot for Strictly Come Dancing fans

Go Back Read on

If spending your Saturday night watching Craig Revel Horwood shimmy around in a velvet blazer and a feather headdress is your idea of good time, you’re in for a treat.

Yep, Strictly Come Dancing is officially back – and somehow, it’s more camp than ever. Honestly, we weren’t even sure that was possible.

For serious fans (like Bee in our office) who need an extra fix, there’s one UK staycation spot that screams Strictly – and there’s plenty of other stuff there if you need to convince your loved ones to come along.

You guessed it, we’re talking about Blackpool. Here’s what you should get up to. And in the meantime, keep dancing.

Visit Blackpool Tower Ballroom (and have a boogie yourself)

Blackpool Tower Ballroom is a must-visit because, as any Strictly lover knows, it’s the show’s spiritual home (it’s actual home where most of it’s filmed is in Borehamwood, but that’s not half as glamorous).

Superfans can channel their inner Giovanni, Oti or Anton on the sprung dancefloor under the ornately decorated ceiling and gleaming chandeliers. Yep, it’s as stunning as it sounds. If you don’t fancy a dance, chill at the table with a glass of fizz or a classic afternoon tea and enjoy the sounds of the the old Wurlitzer organ. Ahh, bliss.

Not into Strictly? Well, apparently you should give it a chance anyway. That’s what this guy told us.

Meet the stars of the show at Madame Tussauds

Madame Tussauds Blackpool is another spot worthy of the glitterball. The Strictly Experience is a whole area dedicated to the show, which is just as fabulous as it sounds.

Snap a selfie with the ballroom’s longest-standing judge (and resident baddie), Craig Revel Horwood, or the late, Bruce Forsyth – nice to see you, to see you nice. Tess and Claudia are there too, of course.

Have a gander in the incredible costume wardrobe. Then grab your partner and descend the famous steps. Ready for your score? Ten, ten, tens across the board.

Check out Blackpool illuminations

If there’s anything that rivals the bright colours of a Saturday night at Strictly, it’s Blackpool Illuminations. They’re not just any old Christmas lights, you know. It’s the number one light show with six whole miles of stuff to marvel at, running all the way along the Blackpool promenade.

They’re on at the same time of year as Strictly – from September through to December/January - so if you happen to be in this neck of the woods from a Glitterball-lovers jaunt, they’re a good one to tie in. Plus, they’re free. You might want to wrap up warm though.
