Days out in Manchester

And it’s also pretty good for family breaks. There’s Sealife and Legoland Discovery Centre for starters, and stadium tours of Man City and Man Utd give footy-mad kids something to brag to their mates about.

Anything for adults?

Definitely. The Northern Quarter’s a must for culture vultures. Dig in the crates for classic vinyl at Piccadilly Records. Shop indie fashions in Affleck’s Palace. Drink beer and stay overnight at The Abel Heywood. And if bands like Joy Division, Oasis and The Smiths get you going, a Manchester Music Tour covers everything from Sifters Records to Salford Lads Club.

Manchester’s more manageable than London and puts the cult into culture. What’s not to love?

Our top tip for a great day out in Manchester

Manchester is named after boobies... some Romans thought two hills look like breasts and used the original name Mamucium which was evolved by the Normans to Manchester.
