Our guide to the best days out in Chester

Lovely Chester – scenic city walls, bags of history and lots for families to do.

Days out in Chester

If history’s your thing, there’s a whole load of it here. Britain’s biggest Roman amphitheatre. A gorgeous Gothic Cathedral. Cafes and boutiques hidden in half-timbered rows. And a wooden coffin set in the walls of a ruined church. Weird but kind of cool, right?

Stuff for families in and around Chester includes Chester Zoo (elephants and tigers included) and Gulliver’s World resort, complete with indoor waterpark. The Blue Planet Aquarium’s also worth a look. It’s home to Europe’s biggest collection of sharks and close to Cheshire Oaks Designer outlet – tire out the kids then bag yourself a bargain.

And Chester’s fab for foodies. Trendy bars. Michelin-starred restaurants. Fresh markets. You name it.

A laid-back alternative to bigger North West Cities, Chester’s got lots to offer.
