According to award-winning racer Piers Prior, the UK is globally renowned as a superb place for a spot of go karting, thanks to our twisty and technical circuits.

Whether you’re looking for indoor or outdoor tracks, or even reality go karting, we’re certainly spoilt for choice here in the UK. So, if you fancy getting behind the wheel, buckle up as we discover five of the coolest go kart tracks across the nation.


Chaos Karts - Manchester

If you’re a big fan of Super Mario Karts, a trip to Chaos Karts should definitely be on the cards.

Be transported into immersive worlds where you can race through futuristic landscapes, overcome virtual obstacles, use power-ups, and unleash weapons on your competition, as you and your team compete for the highest score on the leaderboard – it’s EXACTLY like playing a console game but in real life.

Equipped with built in collision-reduction technology and other high tech safety features, racers can fuel their need for speed without having to wear uncomfortable helmets and heavy overalls. Prices start from £23 per person for a 20-minute spin, and students can even bag 20% discount .


Quarry Karts, Bangor

Located at the iconic Zip World Penrhyn Quarry site, Quarry Karts is the UK’s first mountain cart racetrack, that weaves through the Welsh mountains.

Race down a 3-kilometre dirt track fill with obstacles and enjoy two full runs of thrilling sweeping bends, hair-raising hairpins, epic tunnels, challenging chicanes, and gravity-defying banked corners – all against the backdrop of jaw-dropping views.

The karts feature a low centre of gravity and a wide wheelbase, providing extra stability to tackle the rocky track, while the independent disc brakes allow you to slide and drift around sharp corners.

Get a lift up to the very top of the quarry track in a military truck, with the starting line taking place 1,500 ft above sea level!

Given the challenging nature of the course, it's aimed at people aged 15 years and over and prices start from £40 per person.


Glan-y-Gors, North Wales

This legendary circuit is the largest karting track in North Wales has been named one of the best in the UK by Red Bull – quite the compliment. Race around the 1,100-meter British Champion Circuit while navigating hills and tight corners. Make sure to stay alert for the notorious ‘Devil’s Elbow’ in the final sector, where the track drops away dramatically.

Sessions can take place come rain or shine, and it's a great experience for both novice and experienced go karters. Every race lasts around ten minutes, but thrill-seekers looking to maintain momentum and complete more than one loop can add on extra laps at a discount - because one's never enough right?

One session around the 1,100-metre course starts at £30, and an additional fee is added if you want extra laps. There’s even a 800m circuit that’s ideal for the younger tweens and teens.


Buckmore Park Kart Circuit, Chatham

Buckmore Park is the award-winning motorsport venue in the heart of Kent. Owned by the 7-time Motorcycle World Champion and Ferrari Formula 1 World Champion John Surtees, this go karting spot has undergone some serious upgrades and investments in the past few years. Offering a wide range of race formats from practice sessions to open races and even an adult championship series, there’s something to suit all levels of ability.

Young drives aged between 6-7 can enjoy a bambino session, made up of three structured lessons, while 8 – 15-year-olds can get stuck into the open junior sessions. A 30-minute session is priced at £49 for those over the age of 16, while junior racer prices start at £59.

Whilton Mill, Northamptonshire

Specialising in outdoor activities since 1991, Whilton Mill is set on a 100-acre site in the Northamptonshire countryside. With a choice of three circuits - 450m, 960m or 1200m - and sprint or team endurance race formats, you’re sure to get your go karting fix.

Take park in the Grand Prix and race around the 960m track in the fastest time possible to be crowned the winner, or for those who want to take it a bit more slowly, master your driving skills with an endurance race. The 450 Mill Circuit is an option for beginners with a 30-minute sprint race, and prices start at £45 per session.
