If you’re a first timer, be warned – the waxworks at Madame Tussauds London are freakishly realistic, but that’s not all there is to offer here. The Marvel Universe 4D movie puts you slap bang in the middle of the action as Black Panther, Thor, Captain Marvel and Spidey Boy battle Loki. You can also chill out with Michael Fassbender and the Xenomorph (big teeth, drools a lot) at the Alien: Escape experience. If that’s not enough for you, come face-to-face with Hollywood’s favourite gorilla (standing at a keen 18ft) at King: Skull Island. The stars may be fake, but we promise the fun is all real- perfect for action movie fanatics.
Forhorror movie fanatics, SAW – The Ride at Thorpe Park should be on your hitlist.
The basic concept of the world-famous movie franchise is that Jigsaw abducts people and tortures them in really intricate (and rather fascinating) death traps. Complete with videos from Billy the Puppet (Jigsaw’s weird and spooky avatar), this horror-tastic rollercoaster hurtles riders past a collection of his torture equipment (cast your mind to massive spinning blades, spiky floors and razor-sharp pendulums). Oh, there’s also a 100-degree beyond vertical drop from 100ft high. The ride also reaches speeds of 55mph.
If the film didn’t make your teeth chatter, heart race and tummy flip, the ride certainly will.
If you’re keeping it family friendly, LEGO® NINJAGO® The Ride at LEGOLAND® is a great option.
Based on 2017’s The Lego Ninjago Movie (go ahead and watch, you won’t regret it), this 4D interactive ride blends the excitement of a rollercoaster with the sweet nostalgia of a retro video game. Be prepared to battle snake tribes, skeleton ghosts and The Great Devourer in ice, wind and fire, with spinjitsu mates Nya, Kai, Cole, Zane and Jay by your side.
Even if you’ve never heard of the movie (just watch it, come on) it’s great fun for adults and kids alike.
Whether you’re a die-hard Harry Potter fan (or are legally responsible for one) and you haven’t visited Warner Bros. London yet, what are you doing? Like, seriously? Come on.
There are loads of classic scenes from the series, like the Batter of Hogwarts whist you’re strolling through the Great Hall, creeping through the Forbidden Forest, window-shopping for wands at Diagon Alley or throwing yourself on a wall at Platform 9 ¾.
Even better than that, you can explore the props and costumes you saw so much of during the 1,178 minutes of screentime. You can even see the special effects exhibit, showing you the green screen, whomping willow and invisibility cloak.
Picturesque rolling fields. Classic cars. James Bond. If this sounds like your kinda day out, the National Motor Museum in Beaulieu is worth a visit. The No Time to Die: Bond in Motion exhibition is running til November 2022 and looks absolutely cracking.
Get the full 007 experience with iconic motors like the world-famous silver Aston Martin DB5 (with machine guns, obvs), Aston Martin V8 and Defender 110. You can even see the cool gadgets used by the agent, including the Q-pimped Omega Seamaster Diver Watch. If your interests aren’t limited to classic cars, check out the folding wind glider from No Time to Die. You can’t forget about the ‘stocked and loaded’ merch shop either.
