Refrain from taking pics in the dungeon

You can’t take any photos and using camera phones would really spoil the experience as it’s really dark (and jumpy!) throughout.

Here’s the questions people are asking about The York Dungeon

The tour lasts around 75 minutes, so we recommend giving yourself around an hour and a half.

It’s a good mix of fun and scary, but it’s not for everyone. It can get very dark with lots of loud noises so it might not be suitable for people who are easily scared or overwhelmed.

The recommended minimum age is 8 and kids under 5 aren’t allowed. Remember that it’s a really dark environment with loud noises. Think carefully before bringing really young kids – tickets are non-refundable if they don’t like it.

York Dungeons is an immersive experience with live actors, shows, special effects and story-telling. You’ll journey through Yorkshire’s history (and get a fair few frights on the way).

The York Dungeon doesn’t have a ride, but your adrenaline will still be pumping with electrifying sets from actors and spooky special effects.

Located on Clifford Street, it’s walking distance from pretty much anywhere in York’s town centre.

You can enjoy The York Dungeon if you’re pregnant. But again, bear in mind that there are jump scares and sudden noises, although actors will never chase or touch you. Vengeance of the Vikings and Dick Turpin’s Carriage aren’t suitable for pregnant guests though. If you’re expecting and end up there by mistake, ask staff to escort you out ASAP.

Most of the dungeon is accessible to guests with disabilities but some areas can’t be adapted because of the age of the building. Electric wheelchairs aren’t permitted but regular ones are fine (only one at a time though). And let staff know if you have epilepsy – some areas aren’t suitable.

Please check the Attraction’s operating calendar for opening times and dates. Tickets may not be valid for special events or concerts which may attract a separate admission fee.

No person under the age of 12 will be admitted to the attraction unless they are accompanied by an adult aged 18 years or over and such child or children whilst on site must remain under the control or supervision of an adult at all times.
