Our guide to the best days out in Merseyside

Merseyside’s wedged between Wales and Manchester, with a vibe that’s all its own. And (as cracking as it is), it’s not all about Liverpool. The boroughs of Knowsley, St Helens, Sefton and Wirral are worth a look too.

Days out in Merseyside

Highlights in Liverpool include the UNESCO-rated Albert Dock (tons of museums, shops and restaurants), Liverpool Beatles Museum, and footy at Anfield and Goodison Park. Outside the main city, The Wirral Country Park has birds, rabbits and deer and Sefton Park Palm House is a huge Victorian greenhouse stuffed with lush tropical plants. Puts our home-grown cress to shame.

And there’s more. Knowsley Safari Park has elephants, lions and tigers, and you can try your luck at the gee gees at Haydock Park Racecourse in St Helens.

Want to let your hair down? Cruise the River Mersey on the Party Boat and see Liverpool landmarks like the Three Graces and the Liver Bird while you bust a move to some banging tunes. Nice.
