Touring around this county is a condensed course in English Literature. From Shakespeare’s old stomping ground at Stratford-upon-Avon to J.R.R. Tolkien’s wedding venue Warwick Castle, the magic of words is in the bricks. It’s not bad for music either – the 80s ska revival launched in Coventry with bands like The Specials and The Selecter.
What else is good in Warwick?
Royal Leamington Spa, Rugby and Atherstone are always worth a visit. There’s good food and drink from local producers. And the whole county is criss-crossed with canals where life gets a little slower and a lot more serene.
