Days out in East Midlands

They’re on the east side of England, pretty much in the middle. Top marks to whoever named them.

And the East Midlands have interesting spots like Leicestershire (cracking curry and underdog football), Derbyshire (big on pottery) and Lincolnshire (cathedrals, castles and hills). Then you’ve got Northamptonshire, with historic houses and lush parks, and Nottinghamshire, which has tons of trees and men in tights. Amongst other things.

If you like stately homes, Derbyshire’s a good pick, with the likes of Chatsworth House and Hardwick Hall (the world’s most beautiful house apparently). Fans of camping and hiking love The Peak District’s lovely hills and valleys. And there are lots of great museums too. Like Silverstone Interactive Museum – based at a restored WW2 RAF Hanger and full of racing memorabilia.
