Days out in Cambridge

Ah, Cambridge. Cambridgeshire’s country town. Sits by the River Cam. Half-decent uni apparently.

Lovely architecture and a buzzing vibe make this a decent place to visit pretty much any time, and it’s been a hotspot for Bronze Age settlers, Romans, and Vikings. Visit the University of Cambridge to see beautiful buildings like the Senate House and King’s College Chapel, take a romantic punt on the River Cam, or chill out in parks like Jesus Green and Midsummer Common.

Fancy something a bit livelier though? Cambridge Corn Exchange is a retro building with great restaurants, shops and bars. The ADC Theatre hosts plays, musicals and comedy. Imperial War Museum Duxford’s got some seriously cool combat and passenger planes. And the Cambridge pub scene’s superb too. Check out The Eagle, where Watson and Crick announced they’d discovered DNA (top bants) and The Granta (outdoor seats and chilled river views).

Henry VIII’s holding a chair leg instead of a sword on his Trinity College statue. The sword was stolen by student pranksters in the 1950s. Tchuh, those guys.
