Days out in Cambridgeshire

You’ve heard of Cambridge, but what about the county that surrounds it?

One of the best bits of the East of England, Cambridgeshire has plenty going for it – from historical sites like Ely Cathedral and the Imperial War Museum Duxford to the lakes, meadows, and woods of Nene Park.

In Cambridge itself, you can check out the uni vibes and hop on a River Cam punt (like Venetian gondolas but less curvy). And Peterborough has a lot of hotspots too – like a cracking Norman cathedral and 3500-year-old Bronze Age village at Flag Fen. Then you’ve got loads of pretty villages like Great Shelford, Linton and Houghton on the Hill.

None of that likely to peel your kids’ faces from their phones? They can see Egyptian mummies and dino skeletons at the Fitzwilliam Museum and learn about the human body and outer space at The Cambridge Science Centre.

Did you know?

Great Shelford has its own lucky flying pig. A farmer carved it onto a bard door in the 17th century and it’s been there since.
