A North Yorkshire cathedral city with plenty to see and do. You need more detail? Oh, go on then.
Ripon cathedral’s a pretty big deal. Not just nice to look at, this Norman cathedral is also one of England’s oldest and has a famous 9th century cross. Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal Water Gardens are also pretty special – UNESCO thinks so at least.
The Ripon Famers Market is the place to pick up fresh local meats and cheese. You can scoff a traditional Yorkshire cream tea in one of the lovely cafes. And you’ll find lively banter and tasty ales at the Dog and Duck.
Need something a bit livelier? Lightwater Valley’s rollercoasters and water rides are less than 10 minutes’ drive away.
Ripon’s hornblower has been blowing his instrument every day since 886 AD. Poor old guy.
