So, it's the weekend and you're looking for something to do. The search is over. Here's some weekend day out inspo coming at you.

Go Back Read on

We’re firm believers that using weekends to your advantage is a great way to get more bang for your buck – without using any annual leave either, winner.

These fun things to do at the weekend (and quick trips away) will help you make the most of each moment you have.

Get out the house for a few hours

Now, we weren’t gonna act like some weekends we just want a quick three-hours out the house, just to go back to the sofa and chuck on some movies, because sometimes that exactly what you need.

Think LEGOLAND® Discovery Centre Birmingham (for you family folks) or Blackpool Ballroom for a unique – but extraordinary – day out, perfect for the whole fam.

Try something interactive

Ever wanted to spruce up your day out by swimming with sharks, throwing axes or shooting (and all in half a day)? Well, Bear Grylls Adventure is probably the place for you.

Adrenaline kicks aren’t for you? Try out an Escape room – depending on how speedy you are at solving the mystery, escape rooms can take less than an hour – but some range in length and difficulty, so beware!

Go see some animals

Ah, the classic day out – a trip to the zoo, safari park or aquarium can really hit the spot at the weekend. Our favourites have to be SEA LIFE Hunstanton (home to Norfolk’s only seal sanctuary), Chessington World of Adventures Resort (a zoo AND a theme park?!) or Chester Zoo (you can never go wrong with a classic).

Not sure which is the best for you? Check out our guide – Zoo or safari park? How to choose.

A couple days away

Who doesn’t love a sneaky weekend getaway? They’re (normally) pretty cheap, easy and darn fun. We happen to think that adding a few weekend trips to your holiday roster across the year really mixes things up without breaking the bank. We’re quite the savvy bunch, if you’re looking for some other money saving day out tips, check out our guide here.

Date night

Get yourself and a loved one out for a date night this weekend. Seriously. It’s super fun and you don’t just have to stick with the basics – we’re firm believers that Netflix and chill is dead (non-basic date ideas for the win).

We also reckon a sober date can be just as fun as a boozy one – here are our favourite alcohol-free date ideas. Looking to surprise a loved one? Check out our guide on how to plan a surprise romantic day out, they'll love it.

Bowling

Throwing it back to a childhood classic, chuck your bowling shoes on and get ready for a wild night. Spend the night with friends competing on the lanes, grab some snacks and you’ve got the perfect night.

And as long as you're not super duper competetive, bowling can be a very soothing and relaxing way to spend the weekend - and it definitely won't break the bank. We're all about copping a bargain day out, that's why we created our day out money saving guide.

Plan a picnic

Picnics are an excellent weekend option – not only do you get a bit of fresh air (which let's be honest, we all need), but you also get to eat some seriously tasty food. And we believe winter is no excuse to stop having picnics, that’s why we created our guide with tips, tricks and recipes for a winter picnic.

Head to a Theme Park

This (season-dependent) option is perfect for adrenaline junkies. Think of the likes of Thorpe Park, Alton Towers and Blackpool Pleasure Beach. And if you wanted a new way to explore the best kicks across the UK, why not try visiting the 5 fastest rollercoasters in the UK, or the scariest rides across the country? Now that’s the kind of bucket list you wanna tick off.

Tour somewhere local

Who said you had to go far to have a fun day touring about? We’re firm believers in learning how to be being a tourist in your own city – you get to explore new places and try new things all from the comfort of your local city. What’s not to like? Oh, and it's a great opportunity to tick all of those things off your bucket list- you're welcome.
